Microsoft Excel question (regression lines)?

In Microsoft Excel, when you make a regression output and chart w/ regression line, is the R^2 value for the regression line supposed to be different from the R^2 value in the regression output?

No, they should be identical (maybe the number format will be different). I assume that by ''regression output'' you mean that you used the Regression tool in the Analysis ToolPak, right?

I would guess that your chart is using different ranges than you used in the regression tool. Even leaving out one data point will make a difference.

Or, and I see this commonly with my students, you might have selected the Labels check box in the regression tool but didn't actually include labels in your data ranges. You can identify that problem by looking at the output. If you have a number where the coefficient label should be, then this is your problem.
