Microsoft word 2003 type overs?

when i type on microsoft word 2003, i sometimes forget to add things and then want to go back and type them in. But when i do that it just types over and erases any work that comes after that. How do i fix this?

On the the bottom bar (where page _ of _ is displayed, there should be a button called OVR. Turn it off by clicking on it. (On a windows keyboard, the insert key does the same thing.)

You must have hit your insert button and you put your computer into overtype mode. To get out of the overtype mode just hit the insert key (right above the delete key) again and the overtype will go off.
