Why can't Microsoft programmers learn what a progress bar really means?

100% complete does not mean wrap around to 0%!

I'm so tired of Microsoft installers that have a progress bar that fills up only to have it roll over again and again never knowing how long it will take to install something.

Visual Studio 2005 SP1 is a prime example of this BS.

Also, when I tell Microsoft to install something on an auxilliary disk drive (not my system disk) like Visual Studio... only to have it fill up my system disk... this kind of defeats the purpose of installing software onto another disk.

I really do think you answered your own question.

3rd and 4th word. Microsoft Programmers. Profit geniuses, not so friendly programs.

Hahaha..totally agree with you awb....I use to do programming and wondered the same thing...I now have concluded that the reason for the progress bar fiasco seems to be because these programmers get into a situation either warranting the lazy progress bar restartring because (1) there is no real way to tell how long it will take and so it is best to show the user some progressive movements then to just say ''Please Wait'', or (2) There code is in such a way that the progress bar is a separatre running thread and as such has no clue how long to run and so it just keeps showing the progress bar from 0 to 100% over and over again until someone kills that thread....This says to me that they are too lazy to inline code into those functions that are actualyl doing something so that the progress bar knows when exactly soomething is done....This is laziness at its finest. This normally happens when working in a team environment where many people handle diferent parts of this project and as such, the perosn to do the progress bar has no clue where to locate how long things will take and so just creates this separate thread to keep looping until its done...its definitely easier to write...but defnitely lazy....
