Microsoft Outlook - Windows Vista...please help!?

My mom just downloaded Microsoft Outlook and she has Windows Vista. When she opens up Outlook she can read the mail that is in her inbox, but when she tries to reply and/or send a new email, the box that you type the mail email is all blue with a red "x" in the upper left hand corner. What is wrong and how do we fix it? Also, her laptop is new and came with Vista. Please help cause shes driving me crazy! lol

More information about your outlook would be helpful.

Is it Outlook or Outlook express? You don't normally "download" Outlook, which is why I asked.

If it is Outlook, what version 2007? 2003?

Do you have the outgoing email setup correctly. It sounds like it might not be configured correctly to send mail.

In Outlook 2003 and 2007 you can test the outgoing email connection. To do this go to:

1. Tools menu and choose Account Settings.

2. In 2003 you have to choose to add accounts or view them.

3. Select your account and choose the change button (or just double click the account) to open the E-mail account settings dialog

4. Press the Test Account Settings button

If the tests all pass, then you are set up correctly.
