Hi,
I have Microsoft updates set up to automatically download but then ask me before I install them. I now have that annoying little shield in the bottom corner of my pc telling me I have an update to install. The file is IE7 which I know crashes my machine EVERY time I have tried to install it and restarts it. How can I get rid of this file now it has been downloaded, is there a folder somewhere which I can just delete it from?

Turn OFF Automatic Updates. But use the Microsoft Update thing regularly and pick CUSTOM. Look for IE7 in the list of available updates, and uncheck that.
If you look at the (optional) Software updates you will probably see Windows Media Player 11. You probably want to avoid that too.
Good luck and Happy Computing!

right click the update icon and disable it it won't bother any more
Open up windows update, run a custom scan and when IE7 appears, click on the little plus sign. A description will appear with a box at the bottom that says ''son't show this update again''. Tickmark it and the update will be effectively hidden in the future. Reboot and see if the shield disappears. You can retrieve the update in the future should you want by viewing hidden updates.
Let it install, then uninstall it. Go to the settings on Microsoft update and select not to include IE7 in the updates.
