Microsoft Word Question. Please Read Details.?

I'm writing an essay for my college course. The professor requires the page number on the bottom of each page, EXCEPT for the first page. She also requires the last name as the header on every page, EXCEPT the first page.

How can I adjust the header and footer so it will be just on the pages after the 1st page?? I've played around with it for awile and its frustrating. Please help..

for numbers, insert page numbers start at 0~zero, and ''deselect'' show number on first page option, thus second page will start with 1,

That will do it.
Assuming your instructor wants the second page to have page number 1, do this:

1.At the top of the first page you want numbered, click the Insert-%26gt;Break menu item.

2.Insert a Next Page type section break.

3.Click the Insert-%26gt;Page Numbers menu item.
